Batman Park Melbourne

Just because you’re staying in Melbourne, the most liveable city in the world it also means you can the outdoors and all it has to offer.

Batman Park just a five-minute walk from Waterfront Melbourne Apartments, located on the northern bank of the Yarra River below the railway bridge near the corner of Clarendon and Flinders Streets. Originally a disused freight train rail yard it was named after one of the founders of Melbourne, John Batman.

This public park, established in 1982 is a small open grass space with sealed paths featuring a row of mature lemon-scented eucalyptus trees. In 1997 Batman Park was split in half with the section to the east re-named Enterprize Park, this is now the home of the Melbourne Aquarium.

In 2006 a pigeon loft was built in the northeast corner of the park to encourage pigeons to roost away from the city buildings and streets as council were concerned about pigeon droppings eroding the facades of historical buildings. Eggs laid in the loft were replaced with dummy eggs for the pigeons to incubate. The loft was removed in 2015 as it proved to be unsuccessful in attracting the pigeons.

Batman Park is also home to Melbourne Helipad, Freddy’s Bicycle Hire and features an outdoor picnic area with BBQ facilities and toilets. It is an ideal place to enjoy various ball sports, jogging and walking or just to sit in the sun. As the park is just a few minutes away from the bustling CBD visitors can access the many cafes, bars and restaurants close by.

The park lies beside the Yarra River near what is fast becoming the conference and meeting centre of Melbourne with Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre, World Congress Centre and Crown Entertainment Complex all within close proximity.
