Bars in Melbourne with amazing views

1. Plus 5

37 South Wharf Promenade, South Wharf VIC 3006

This tapas and cocktail bar is located an easy 5 minute walk away from Waterfront Melbourne Apartments located along the Yarra River housed in an old goods shed. Enjoy happy hour and the Melbourne sunset simultaneously from the outdoor seating! The small share plates allow you to get a taste of everything – if we had to choose, we’d recommend the house made meatballs and the lemon pepper calamari. Or opt for a pizza to share (or even for yourself!) – don’t miss out on the opportunity to take a pizza back to enjoy on your private balcony overlooking the Yarra River in one of our river view apartments. The drinks menu is a mix of old and new, with some familiar classics or Plus 5 specialties. Feeling fruity? We can’t go past the cider sensations, a cool glass of apple cider with an added twist of passionfruit, mixed berry or strawberry & lime.

We can’t fail to mention the live and local music they host every Friday & Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. While you’re staying with us, we don’t think you should miss out on visiting Plus 5.

2. State of Grace

We won’t spoil it… you’ll just have to investigate when you’re next in town to uncover the basement bar, appropriately named “Fall from Grace” dotted with luxurious velvet lounges and antique knick-knacks. Besides the décor, this bar offers up an extensive selection of grazing bites or larger fine dining dishes such as the crispy skinned pork belly with borlotti bean and salad onion or if it takes your fancy, the roast kingfish served with preserved lemon and charged shallots. Besides the cuisine, explore signature selection of cocktails from ‘Saving Grace’; a salted caramel – spiked espresso martini to ‘Have the Bees’; providing a warming floral concoction of gin and chamomile honey among other ingredients. This bar can easily be found an easy walk away or a free tram ride from Waterfront Melbourne Apartments when you next stay with us.

5.Pony Fish Island

Southgate Pedestrian Bridge, Southgate, Melbourne.

Hidden under a pedestrian bridge, strictly accessible from a single stairwell, you’ll find this quaint spot perched on top of Melbourne’s Yarra River. With its namesake originating from a heavily debated, elusive creature that has reportedly been sighted in the river it floats on, you can easily walk straight over this bar *literally*, unaware of the bustle beneath. Decked out with recycled materials, this bar demonstrates it doesn’t need to be over the top, with their simple menu supplying a dish for every hour of the day from your Smashed Avo for brunch to a Toasties or Quesadillas later as the sun sets.
