Over time the traditional lead-up race to the Cup has been the group two Lexus Stakes, which takes place on Victoria Derby Day the Saturday prior. The Lexus Stakes along with the Cox Plate, Caulfield Cup, Geelong Cup, Ramsden Stakes & Bart Cummings are all races which the winners gain ballot exemption and an automatic start in the Melbourne Cup, so keep an eye out on these races for your Melbourne Cup betting.
