The Royal Melbourne Show is Victoria’s largest showcase of agriculture and is conducted annually by The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV).  This year the show is celebrating 162 years of bringing a little slice of country living to the city and will attract up to half a million people over 11 days. Open daily 9.30am – 9.00pm, this event is smoke free.

Held at the Melbourne Showgrounds, located in the inner northwestern suburb of Ascot Vale, less than 15 minutes away by car from Waterfront Melbourne Apartments. However, with it’s own designated train station, public transport is the best way to travel to and from this iconic event.  From Southern Cross Station travel time is approximately 15 minutes with trains departing every 10 – 20 minutes, last train departs Melbourne Showgrounds at 10.30pm.

Your daily ticket to this diverse event provides hours of all-inclusive jaw-dropping, world-class live entertainment day and night with demonstrations, interactive and hands-on activities, attractions, stunts and performances from talented artists.

The traditional purpose of the show has always been the display of rural industry, including livestock and produce with its associated competitions and awards.  You’ve got to see the Spotlight Makers Pavilion for those one-off pieces of art and a labyrinth of dazzling creative exhibits, decorated cakes, embroidery, pickles & preserves, photography, art & craft, cookery and so much more

Animals of all shapes and sizes are the real stars of the Show with thousands of them spread across the showgrounds, for you to visit, pat and feed.  Whether it’s the adorable baby animals in the Animal Nursery (ideal selfie moment), the Livestock Pavilion, Showjumping, The Farmhouse or The Animal Farmyard the Show has them all.  You can even milk a cow or shear a sheep!

It’s a foodies delight with a huge offering of award-winning food and drink from some of Melbourne’s most popular eateries and acclaimed Australian chefs.  The place to be is The Meadow, a newly created precinct offering food, beverages and entertainment located at the heart of the Show and close to where all the action is.

The Show After Dark is Melbourne’s newest night out with 11 consecutive evenings of pop-up restaurants, bars, live music and entertainment. Don’t miss the opening concert on Saturday 22nd which commences 4.45pm featuring Australia’s heart and sole of Australian rock & roll, Jimmy Barnes live in concert. Every evening the fireworks are a crowd spectacular and one of the best places to see the nightly fireworks is from high above the ground on the Euro Wheel.

You can’t leave the Show without experiencing the thrill and adrenaline rush of visiting one the three exciting carnival precincts to enjoy the amusement rides and sideshow allies. It’s pure fun for the whole family.

No visitor to the Show can go past the Showbag Pavilion without picking up at least a showbag or two; it’s a uniquely Australian thing to do. There’s a showbag for everyone with over 350 on offer.
